The Traveler-mk3 provides eight channels of pristine 192 kHz analog recording and playback, combined with twenty channels of digital I/O in ADAT optical, AES/EBU and S/PDIF formats. Expand your system by connecting additional MOTU FireWire audio interfaces or the 8pre mic input expander. The Traveler-mk3 is equally well-suited for studio, stage and remote locations, with or without a computer. As an interface or stand-alone mixer, the Traveler-mk3 provides 28 separate inputs and 30 separate outputs, including four XLR/quarter-inch combo mic/instrument analog inputs equipped with pre-amps, individual 48V phantom power switches and Digital Precision Trim controls conveniently adjusted from the front panel or CueMix FX software. MOTU Traveler-mk3 FireWire Audio Interface Review

I went from the M-box bought with an early version of Protools to the Motu traveler-Mk3. The difference in sound is mind blasting. Everything is much clearer. I have a pair of dynaudio passive monitor speakers and a NAD amplifier -all excellent quality. Having a good interface really changes the sound quality. The CueMix software is good and easy to manage. The idea of a stand alone product is good and its really light, but the buttons are a bit fidgety to manage, it's better to program CueMix in advance. If you want a top end interface try metric halo. I thought that buying the Motu traveler-Mk3 was a good intermediate. I also have a apogee ONE interface that I just carry around with my laptop, but the sound quality is no way near the Motu. For me the Mk3 is missing a second headphone channel like the MOTU 828mk3 Hybrid Interface, but I wanted a extra set of XLR entries. BTW there is a midi in and out.
