Trijicon RMR Sight 3.25 MOA with RM34 Review

Used with the #43 high mount, the RMR will co-witness with Magpul's BUIS. Whilst Trijicon manufactures a larger optic red dot SRS, I found that device unnecessarily heavy due to its larger glass. Ditto for the EoTech holo sights - the latter a former generation design, in my mind on its way out for both its size, weight, and less visible display. There is no logic behind a red dot sight being larger than enough to display its red dot.

With a heads up red dot, the size of the optic is relatively insignificant for real world use, large or small. Red dots are used with both eyes open and as long as one sees the red dot quickly, one can use it as it was intended. What is important is that the field of view - meaning your peripheral vision - will not be obstructed by the "frame" of the optic. With either Trijicon's SRS or RMR there's very little obstructed. A red dot is a red dot. If you can clearly see it - and here the Trijicons auto adjust feature helps to keep the red dot always visible - the point of impact should be where the red dot points.

So where's the upside, let's say against a Burris FastFire III or other small optic? Not much for most people who are not in combat and just go to the range. However the Trijicon RMRs have been fully tested by various services in combat, in conjunction with the magnified ACOG and other optics. It has proved itself to be very rugged and reliable. It's battery life is spec'd at 17,000 hours - about 2 years' worth with the device being left on always. That long life use can be a life saver. One does not want to have an optic go down if the battery failed and one needed his weapon.

The RMR's dot brightness can be manually adjusted to your preferences, however I found that in the auto mode it does what it is supposed to do. If the light condition suddenly changed, one entered a dark room from a sunlit outside or back, the Trij will be visible.

As for the FastFire III? Optically the Philippine-made holo sight is excellent too, at less than half the price of the Trijicon RMR, the latter is the better choice for those who are willing to pay for what is presumably the best of its kind and will take no risk in having less than the best. Accordingly the five star rating, for I know of no competitor in this area that can surpass the reliability, weatherproof - water-resistance, and optical clarity of the RMR.
