CD500 - Nakamichi Am/fm/cd/mp3 Player Review
Well I've always loved music and finally had the time and money to put a system into my vehicle which is a 2001 Dodge Ram Ext cab. A bit of back ground about what I like in music. I am an audiophile wanna be. I love separation in music. Being able to hear every instrument being played and having them blend together while making the actual sounds that they would if you were to be at the recording studio with the artist or group recording the track. So the bar was set pretty high on what my expectations were and I wanted to accomplish.
I grew up listening to a Nakamichi tape deck then a Nakamichi cd player which was powered by a Crown DC 300 tube amplifier and played through Klipsch Belles and Klipsch Heresy II's.
Understanding that this unit would put a digital single back into analog made my heart skip a beat.
Basically the tube amp I grew up with gave a warm creamy sound and that's what I wanted not a sharp crappy chopped off mp3 digital sound. With that in mind I set out on my mission. I purchased the head unit along with 3 way Nakamichi speakers, 2 way Power Accoustic speakers for mid bass. Which was my first mistake. I also bought two 10 inch self powered Infinity subs my best move besides buying the deck.
The amp I purchased initially was a sound storm not bad for the money but not what I truly wanted or needed for what I wanted. I also purchased a 3 way cross over to have a gain on the bass because if your serious about music this is a must....
So I hooked everything up and set the highs on the front 6x9's and the mid bass has the rest of the load along with subs...Basically it was too separated and it was clear and could get loud, but it had its point of distortion. I knew the deck was awesome I just didn't know how great it was until about a week ago....
I upgraded to a Polk audio 4 channel amp at 125rms which is the key folks..... matching the speakers to the amp...
Then I purchased the Infinity 693.9i they are surreal for someone like myself. I've never heard anything that clear, precise, or loud in my life.
They run at 110rms....Which is so loud you can't stand it...and I love loud music.
I then upgraded to Pyle PYLE PDMW6 6.5 which
are great on my fading setting which is at 5 due to the Infinity's being so powerful but what it does is blend the sound together perfect. Its like sitting a room with a home audio sound system.
The Infinity subs are turned way down so not to distort and thump. When the snare drum hits it sounds like snare drum and tambourine you can here it jingle in the background.
All of these things are possible due to the AMAZING head unit by Nakamichi. Its so true and accurate one audio fan said to me just today....
"I've seen John Melloncamp live 4 times and that is exactly what it sounds like!"
If you serious about music and understand what true music is you don't just want this head unit you need it to experience what true sound is.
