Product Description

This is simply an amazing lens. Unfortunately, the focus has become unreliable and I do not know how to fix it. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it works sporadically, and sometimes it just stops. Because this is a "focus-by-wire" lens, the manual focus has the same problem as auto. When it focuses properly, you won't believe the incredible images this thing produces are. However, because of the focusing issue, I am selling the lens as-is and cannot accept returns for any reason. Be sure to ask all questions prior to purchasing. This lens is used and shows signs of wear. Please view the images to see the nicks around the filter ring and some of the minor scratches on the body. Despite the wear on the body, the glass is completely flawless inside and out. This is priced to sell and could be an incredible deal for those of you who are mechanically or electronically inclined. Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L USM Lens for Canon SLR Cameras Review

I bet if you are considering buying the 85mm 1.8 you came across this lens and thought to yourself why is the 85mm 1.2 so much more expensive? Is it sharper? Is it that much better?

Not necessarily. This is a specialty lens, and that's one reason I don't own it (I also can't afford it, lol). Photographers who buy it are aiming for a specific look that's created with 1.2 aperture. The look this lens creates tends to be very sharp at center and smoothly moves to dreamy blur towards the edges. It's that very special effect that you see in some of the top fashion photography that photographers seek in this lens.

Other than the special effect that the extra stop offers there are few basic differences. The 1.2 produces more contrast and saturated colors, but it isn't anything beyond what you can replicate in Photoshop. On the other hand the 1.8 focuses faster. Also, the 1.2 extra stop accounts for the huge size and weight difference. The 1.2 weight 2.3 pounds!! vs. the 1.8 which weight slightly under 1 pound. I am guessing that due to this weight difference the 1.2 focuses slower (much heavier and bigger glass), but that's just a guess.

Keep in mind that the 1 stop difference in aperture accounts for the stark difference in price. Both lenses are designed differently (element count for example). There are many other lenses that serve as an example of big difference in pricing due to only 1 extra stop. Take for example the 16-35 2.8 and 17-40 4.0; one stop difference doubles the price in the case of the first lens.

I hope that you found this information helpful in deciding if this great lens is for you or not. As for me, I decided to sacrifice the extra stop in aperture and go with the 85mm 1.8. It represents a better value for me plus if I ever need a higher aperture I would just buy the 50mm 1.4, which provides an 85mm field of view on my 1.6 crop factor camera. Defiantly a lower quality lens, but greater value for me!

Ps. many fashion photographers own both lenses (1.8 and 1.2). They use the 1.8 most of the time along with the 135 2.0 (another great lens!) and only pull out the 1.2 when the job calls for its special effects.

Well I cant say much that hasn't already been said....lol..... I can say that this is one fast CPU and for the cost It should be. The overclocking ability is very good and has very easy to use BIOS setting to accomplish overclocking for the new and technical advanced people. I takes on anything I throw at it without even a strain. I am usually a AMD man 100% when building a gaming unit. This was the first Intel I have purchased for a gaming build since 1993 & I don't regret the purchase. I remember when I was looking at this CPU and reading everyone else's comments about how Sandy was coming out soon and to hold out. I don't regret and I don't think Sandy lived up to i the hype in what I have seen from it. I have experienced both and I will stick with the I7

I ordered this product based on it reviews and build. I was not disappointed. it rolls (that is what I wanted) and it is solid. I am very picky so the wood while very nice was still a bit grainy. The back panel could be made a bit more adjustable or custom at this price point. The finish is well done and everything fits. Got it on sale which is why its a 4 instead of three. Overall, there are other options but very few that fill both ends of something that can move and is stylish. I have the mid century theme going on in the basement.

Salience / Jasmine Lp2.0 MM-MC Phono Preamplifier Review

I received the recommendation to purchase the Jasmine from veteran audiophiles that value performance for price: Big names are not important. I compared their advice with what I could glean from the various Audio sites. I made the purchase and what a delight. The sound is pure and clean without perceptible coloration, casting a big sound stage with reproduction that sounds like music. Instruments have natural timber, voices sound like voices, highs are smooth, bass is tight, and it reproduces the aural sound of the music hall in classical recordings.

I made one inexpensive modification by upgrading the output capacitors to Jantzen Superior z-capacitors (1 uf) for a cost of $25. These lifted the veil from the music. I don't even give a thought to upgrading.

Evaluated on system with the following components: VPI TNT turntable, VPI JMW 12.5 tone arm, Denon DL-S1 LOMC cartridge, Jungson JA88D integrated Class A, Focal Utopia drivers in an Orca-designed TMM enclosure with Jantzen Superior Z-caps. I listen principally to classical, big band. I have tested it with some classic rock. Regardless of the genre, music reproduction is authentic.
