Energy RC-70 Floorstanding Speaker - Black Ash Veneer Review

I had Cerwin Vega CMX series 7.1 set up for about 6 months and they were good speakers, however I always wanted Energy RC/Veritas speakers and finally I managed to find them at very reasonable prices.

Energy RC-70 speakers are outstanding and I believe in 2007 they were rated as the best speakers for under $2000 (a pair). They require a long break in time (for me it was about 80-100 hours) and they were playing Chillout lounge music while I was at work. They sounded not very good right out of the box and Audyssey calibration automatically set their crossovers to 120 Hz (which is way too high). When I put U2 CD it could hear mostly highs and very few lows. Initially I thought that there is something wrong with them, however I decided to give them an extended break in time before judging sound quality. After break-in I reran the Odyssey MultEq Xt32 and the crossover was set at 70 (I manually adjusted it to 80) and they sounded amazing! I couldn't believe my ears! I can't stop listening to them - they are so addictive. I read a lot of reviews online and people were saying the same thing.

My overall Energy RC/Veritas set up is:

- Energy RC-70 towers;
- Energy Veritas V-S surrounds;
- Energy V-5.2 center channel;
- 2 Klipsch SW-110 subwoofers;
- Onkyo TX-NR818 receiver.

For all this set-up I paid LESS than Bose Lifestyle V35. I still don't know why people spend this kind of money on Bose - it's true cost is a couple of hundred bucks at most and $2000+ is for marketing. Stop paying for Bose marketing campaigns!

Energy managed to create the best speakers for the buck (the old RC and Veritas lines). Period.
