Love this head, it is a bit stiff but very solid. I don't really go for QR heads, when I shoot I don't take the camera off the tripod, plus QR Heads create a bit of play vertically that I don't like. It does put your camera close to the legs and head platform on vertical shots, but I added a 1.5" Bogen riser that makes it works just fine as far as clearance. I use this on the 4 section CF Gitzo tripod and travel so the ball heads are nice and compact. I also own the #2 ball head I use on a smaller tripod. Gitzo quality of course, I own 3 all together, all with ball heads.
