The ATN Night Scout VX-CGT, Night Vision Binocular, 2+ Gen 45-54 lp/mm NVBNNSCVC0 are an excellent pair of night vision binoculars. Inside the box are the binoculars and a strap, a carrying case, 2 batteries, a simple instruction booklet and a warranty card. The CGT (Custom Grade Tube) are what make these a step above normal Generation 2 (Gen 2) Night Vision, and is why they are advertised as Gen 2+ These tubes are said to be closer to Gen 3 tubes when it comes to light amplification. In addition to more light amplification and less noise, the tubes are also rated at 10,000 hours MTTF (Mean time To Failure) which is about 5x what a normal Gen 2 tube is rated for, so they should last a lifetime. The device takes a single 123A battery (it came with two), and it is said that will power the binoculars for 30 hours when not using the built in Infra Red Illuminator. The construction of the binoculars is nice and solid, and they look very stylish.

The performance with these night vision binoculars is great. Under a moonless sky it is easy to recognize objects at 100+ yards. With a good amount of ambient light (street lights or with the moon) detection is much much further. The Infra Red Illuminator is only needed when there is not really any ambient light, such as in the woods when there is no moon. In extremely low light levels they work about as well as Gen I night vision will under normal conditions, so the Infra Red Illuminator is definitely needed.

When pointed up to the sky, unfortunately, all stars will have a halo as there are no gain controls on the unit and the stars are bright enough to cause the halo effect to occur. This does not render them useless for something like star gazing, but it can be a little bit of a nuisance as you will never see sharp spheres.

These are an excellent value at under 3K, and I definitely recommend these to anyone looking for a quality pair of night vision binoculars.
