Vortex Viper HS LR Long Range FFP 4-16x50mm Riflescopes Review

Let me start off saying this is one of the best scopes I have every had. I have owned various scopes from the $20 tasco to Leupold. I had been looking for a scope for my Remi 700 aac-sd. I looked at several scopes at different price points. The first scope I got for it was the Sightmark Triple Duty. It was not a bad scope for under $200 but while shooting one day my rifle fell off the shooting bench and landed on the scopes turret. Needless to say the scope was toasted. So I began my quest again. This time I had a little more money to spend so I started looking at much better scopes. After looking at several scopes in this price range it was between a Ziess and the Vortex. When I found out about the unconditional warrenty on the Vortex I was sold.

I mounted it with warne 20 moa base and rings and bore sighted it and off the the range I went. It took me about 10 rounds to get it zeroed out due to me not being used to the .5 moa elevation turret, I was over correcting by at least 4 inches. That is until I actually read the insturctions for the turrets and then on the 11,12, and 13th shot I was hitting almost where I wanted to. This was not the fault of the scope, it was the cheap plastic stock that comes on the Remington. I have since replaced that stock with a Bell and Carlson A2 and rezeroed the scope and now it is pinpoint accurate.

The scope has great light transmission and the glass is very clear from 4 power up to the top at 16. All of the turrets turn with crisp clicks and are easy to rezero after making changes. I have done the box test and all turrets seem to track accuratly. The build quality and finish is superb. All of the markings are easy to read and it has a nice feel to it.

The only issue I have is the reticle, it is a little busy. I would much perfer just a plain mil-dot, but the reticle and turrets match is it a moa/moa so rangeing is fairly easy once you lear the subtention. I understand they do offer it in a mil/mil config.

All in all it is a great scope for the money, plus a warrenty that is AWSOME. If you break it, it is fixed or replaced no matter what. When you give it to someone or sell it and they break it, it is still fixed or replaced. You can't beat that.
